Like most people on my watchers list, I rarely upload artwork onto DA anymore. However, I still use DA, especially when it comes to searching for inspiration for projects and lessons for my students, so for that reason I figured I'd update this dusty blog and tell those of you who still follow me (all three of you!) what I've been up to. Most notably, I got a new job last week! After four long post-grad years of working part-time art teaching jobs, I finally was hired as a full-time art teacher at an elementary school right in the next town over from me. Public school teaching jobs are notoriously difficult to get in this area, with art and music teaching jobs being the most elusive due to the cuts those departments regularly encounter. I'm gonna miss my students from last year like crazy, but I also know I'm off to bigger and better things.
As far as nerdiness / fandom updates go (because you can't write a DA journal without mentioning those!), I've been trying to use my free time during the school year keeping up with everything...and failing. Though I was able to play through Pokemon X back when it came out, and I'm currently utilizing my summer to beat some old SNES games I somehow missed. And of course I've been sewing. After spending the last few months helping my afterschool Art Club students make patterns for plushies, I finally have some time to myself to make my own. I missed it!
That's it for now!

It's Spring Again...
I haven't posted in a while, huh? I guess I've been busy, though it doesn't really seem like it. A lot's happened in the past month alone, but rather than use my brain and think of a well-written, essay format entry, I'll simply give everyone a Cliff notes version.
I'm in my second year teaching art. I love it and have been having a blast since September, but as of a few weeks ago I'm uncertain as to if I'll be teaching again next year. On Ash Wednesday, our Principal had us gather into the teacher's lounge and broke the news that our school would be yet another casualty to yearly school closings. It was a huge curveball straight to the
Be thankful...

Summer's wrapping up...
It's that time again...school's starting up, and I've got a couple weeks to get my first marking period's worth of lessons together. But in the meantime, I'll reminisce.
My annual camp counselor job at ArtSport wrapped up on Friday, and I'm still not sure what to make of it...I've worked there for five summers now, and while each year had its own little obstacles, none of them were quite like this one. Last summer, for example, my art room was right in the middle of everything, next to the courtyard. Kids and other counselors would come in and out, and there was so much traffic and excitement buzzing around my art class all day that
This is gonna be a crazy year...
Hey everyone (all ten of you who actually still come to my DA page, that is)! I've been missing from DeviantART for a little while now, mostly because I've been so busy with my new job as an art teacher. That's right, I finally got the job I've always wanted! It's been great so far, don't get me wrong, but it's also been exhausting and just a bit overwhelming. I'm teaching all grades from Pre-K through eighth at a Catholic School in Bergen County (NJ), and I only have a handful of lesson plans in my arsenal right now; that means that pretty much all my free time has been dedicated to 'catching up' and writing new lessons for the students.
